Lesson 98-4: Fading an LED Light Using Arduino: Brightness Control

Lesson 98-4: Fading an LED Light Using Arduino: Brightness Control

In this lesson, we learn how to use LEDs and push buttons in these 10 LED projects. The wiring diagram is shown; the code is fully explained and demonstrated with multiple changes of settings for each project. We read the potentiometer's voltage and display the voltage by turning each LED on to represent the voltage. A simple traffic light project.

This code is part of a video lecture. This is project 4 code. This code will turn the LED on or off with a fading value. So the LED will get brighter slowly and will turn off slowly, fading out.

 * What parts we need:
 * -Of course Arduino board (UNO , Nano, Mega or any)
 * -Push button switch
 * -LED either 5mm or 3mm
 * -200ohm to 1000 ohm resistor for LED
 * -Some dupont wires to connect
 * -If you don't want to solder, then use a breadboard

  The analogWrite() function uses PWM, so if you want to change the pin you're
  using, be sure to use another PWM capable pin. On most Arduino, the PWM pins
  are identified with a "~" sign, like ~3, ~5, ~6, ~9, ~10 and ~11.

  This example code is in the public domain.

// the setup routine runs once when you press reset:
void setup() {

  pinMode(led, OUTPUT);
}

// the loop routine runs over and over again forever:

  brightness = brightness + fadeAmount;

  // reverse the direction of the fading at the ends of the fade:
  if (brightness <= 0 || brightness >= 255) {
    fadeAmount = -fadeAmount;
