Course Lesson 8 of 10: Raspberry Pi Pico Smart Car – Lesson 8: Servo Motor and Object Following
Welcome to Lesson 8 of the Raspberry Pi Pico Smart Car course by Robojax. This lesson is part of the 10-part instructional series based on the SunFounder Raspberry Pi Pico 4-Wheel Drive Smart Car Kit.
In this video, you will learn how to control a servo motor using Python, and how to integrate that control into your smart car’s interaction with its environment. You’ll also explore an exciting application: having the smart car follow an object or hand within a specific distance range.
What You’ll Learn
The first part of the lesson introduces the servo motor and shows how to set it to specific angles using Python code. This knowledge is fundamental for any robotic project involving actuators like arms, sensors, or camera mounts.
In the second half, the lesson covers a follow-object behavior: when an object (like your hand) is placed 10 to 20 cm in front of the car, the smart car will move toward the object, stop upon reaching it, and then reverse slightly. This kind of proximity-based movement is foundational to robotics and automation.
This behavior is implemented using an ultrasonic sensor in conjunction with the servo motor. While the detailed code structure is not covered line-by-line, the behavior is clearly demonstrated to help you replicate the function.
